PetroVietnam teams up with Quang Ngai Province to develop bio-fuel

PetroVietnam (PVN) and Quang Ngai Provincial People’s Committee, on August 19th, signed a cooperation deal on investment, development and consumption of raw materials to produce bio-fuel under the Dung Quat Bio-Ethanol Factory Project.

Under the agreement, the partners will join hands in developing sustainable raw-material areas to plant cassava and a bio-fuel distribution channel as well as the market in Quang Ngai Province.

For cassava, the Committee will work with local people to expand areas to plant cassava and set up units to provide technical assistance to cassava farmers. Meanwhile, PVN will provide expenditure, insurance, and production assistance, such as seeds and fertilisers.

Besides, PVN will also invest in infrastructure, such as roads and irrigation, for cassava planting areas.

The Central Oil and Gas Bio-Fuel Stock Company will be in charge of marketing and promoting bio-fuel among consumers.

The Dung Quat Bio-Ethanol Factory project is being carried out by PVN in Dung Quat Economic Zone, at a cost of nearly VND 1,500 billion, and with a designed capacity of 100 million litres per year, meeting about 25% of demands of bio-fuel E5 mixture in Vietnam.

The main factory, expected to complete its machinery installation later this month, will be run for trial purposes in October, and will go into operation in mid-November.
