Chennai authorities have urged the business sector to assist and support the government in its urban planning and sustainability initiatives. Phanindra Reddy, Secretary for Housing and Urban Development, speaking at a seminar organised by the Madras Chamber of Commerce and Industry, stressed that successful urban planning rests on continuity. While cities always change on the back of economic opportunities and changing policies, government systems are not always able to keep up and improvement projects are not sustained. Reddy said the private sector could contribute to this much-needed continuity.
