Repurposing old electric vehicle batteries

Used lithium batteries from electric vehicles still have much to offer, according to Chevy Volt maker General Motors.  GM, technology firm ABB and US utility Duke Energy are working on ways to use old car batteries as energy storage to supplement electricity grids, which are struggling to cope with intermittent energy from solar and wind.
