Review of energy and environmental strategy up

Prime Minister Shinzo Abe instructed Economy, Trade and Industry Minister Toshimitsu Motegi to start from scratch and review the energy and environmental strategy enacted by the former Democratic Party of Japan-led government.

This is based on a series of opinions presented at the first meeting of the Industrial Competiveness Council held on January 23, where expert members called for measures such as bringing nuclear power plants back online.

“Creation of a responsible energy policy which also takes into account stable supply and cost reduction” was ranked an urgent policy issue.
