Scraping away Malaysia’s river eco-systems

Uncontrolled sand mining in the Malaysian state of Selangor is to blame for many of the recent floods experienced in the region, according to Selangor Barisan Nasional co-ordinator Datuk Seri Mohd Zins Mohamed. He told flood victims that the mining was also destroying local eco-systems, and would deplete the local sand supply in one to three years.
