There is no need to push for the Langat 2 water treatment plant project to ensure constant supply of water in the state, Selangor Mentri Besar Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim said.
“If Syabas water treatment plants are in good condition, there will be no problem.
“As of now, the treatment plants are not maintained properly and the people of Selangor are not getting proper treated water,” he said after chairing the weekly exco meeting here Wednesday.
Given this, Khalid said the state government had appointed two audit firms to look into Syarikat Bekalan Air Selangor Sdn Bhd’s (Syabas) operations, to ensure the water treatment plants were being managed well.
On Tuesday, Energy, Green Technology and Water Minister Datuk Seri Peter Chin reiterated Putrajaya’s stance that taps would run dry in Selangor by 2014 if the Langat 2 plant was not built.
He faulted the Pakatan Rakyat state government for delaying approval for the project, said his ministry would explain through a 20-minute video the dire consequences for the state and the federal territories of Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya.
