Singapore gets a CSR wake-up call

Acting Manpower Minister Tan Chuan—Jin told media that the recent illegal strike by Chinese-national SMRT bus drivers was a wake-up call to Singaporean companies to manage their employee relations with care. He added that while working relations overall were ‘harmonious’ in Singapore, problems existed for both employers and employees. He also urged all parties to use proper channels to deal with labour grievances.

As a result of the incident, the Republic deported 29 of the striking workers, who alleged they were treated unfairly compared to other foreign nationals.
