Singapore telecommunications firm StarHub has appointed Jaclyn Yeo as vice president (VP) of corporate sustainability.

Yeo joins the company after four years with DBS, where she led the bank’s sustainability reporting efforts.

As VP of sustainability, Yeo will lead StarHub’s ambition to achieve net zero emissions by 2050, and to cut Scope 1 and 2 emissions by half from 2021 levels by 2030.

The company’s decarbonisation strategy includes increasing the use of renewable energy to 30 per cent by 2030, replacing legacy IT networks with cloud systems, and switching its transport fleet to electric vehicles. StarHub’s near- and long-term decarbonisation targets were approved in November by the Science Based Targets initiative, which validates net zero plans in line with climate science.

StarHub introduced sustainability-linked key performance indicators for its senior management from January onwards to incentivise company executives to meet targets for renewables procurement and emissions reduction. StarHub reviews its sustainability targets every five years.

Yeo joins a company named “the world’s most sustainable telco” by Corporate Knights magazine four months after the departure of Veronica Lai, who was StarHub’s chief corporate and sustainability officer. Lai, who was also StarHub’s general counsel, is a board member of United Nations Global Compact Network Singapore and was appointed VP in July.

Before joining DBS, Yeo was research manager at professional services firm Marsh McLennan, where she managed thought leadership publications on emerging risks such as climate change.
