TLC to help charities go green

A company is spearheading a campaign to help charities reduce costs by going green.

The Truly Loving Company (TLC) Sdn Bhd will help 12 charities switch to energy-saving electrical and lighting appliances to reduce their bills through TLC Promise Me 2012 Campaign.

“Electricity costs can take up to 30 per cent of charities’ operating expenses.

“We want to give them a gift that keeps on giving a sustainable solution to their needs,” said TLC CEO and founder Julia Chong at the launch of the campaign with the theme “Where Aid Turns to Sustainability” or Project WATTS.

She said this was the third year of the campaign.

“The public can participate and be involved through our Project WATTS Facebook App at www.projectwatts.org,” she added.

Health Minister Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai applauded TLC for coming up with a creative way to combine care for the needy with protecting the environment.

“The charities can save the environment by reducing CO2 emissions. Reducing their monthly electricity bills will also lessen their financial burden,” he said.

988 FM, as campaign partner, will be promoting project WATTS to its 1.6 million listeners.

The campaign’s media partners include Capital FM, Red FM and Suria FM.

Red FM marketing communications manager Mohd Azeril Zulkifli said they were helping to promote Project WATTS through public service announcements on green tips and also TLC’s Facebook page.

“This is a great project where Red FM can give back to the community,” he said.
