Tuas Power offers small businesses ‘lighting solutions’

Energy provider Tuas Power has launched a “Lighting Solutions” programme to help smaller businesses save on energy bills. The initiative is aimed at encouraging companies to undergo audits to improve energy efficiency.

For a start, the company is spending about S$100,000 to sponsor five non-profit organisations to switch to more energy-efficient light bulbs.

They are Ren Ci Hospital, the Moral Home for the Aged Sick, the Young Men’s Christian Association, the Metta Welfare Association and the Rainbow Centre - Margaret Drive School.

The move could save these organisations about S$57,000 in annual energy costs.

Mr Gerald Lim, general manager at YMCA International House, said: “We were in the middle of doing renovations for three floors of our nine-floor building. Tuas Power did an audit and found that we had to change 761 bulbs … that’s roughly about 47 per cent of energy costs.”

Tuas Power General Manager Michael Wong said they came up with lighting solutions for smaller businesses because switching to energy-saving lighting is one of the easiest ways any business can cut its energy costs.

He said: “For the small businesses, the investment for lighting solutions would be smaller and more suitable for them to invest, and the payback would be shorter.”

Tuas Power added energy efficient clients are able to grow their businesses better, and develop their energy needs in a stable and sustainable way.
