US draws up environmental cooperation plan with Southeast Asia

US President Barack Obama has proposed a sustainable energy partnership with Southeast Asia. In a statement from the White House, the environmental pact will expand existing energy programs to increase cooperation in the region, and will encourage collaborative work on cleaner and sustainable energy in the Asia Pacific. Called the US-Asia Pacific Comprehensive Partnership for a Sustainable Energy Future, the White House said it will include the private sector as well as multilateral lending agencies like the World Bank and the Asian Development Bank. The US is also slated to invest $6 billion into financial credit programs for the initiative.
