Vestas wins 250 MW supply agreement from China

Vestas, a global leader in wind energy, announced here Thursday that it had initiated cooperation with a new Chinese customer, Inner Mongolia Guibang Shengtai Investment (GSI) Co. Ltd. (GSI).

The Chinese company has placed a firm and unconditional order for 49 MW for a project in Huitengxile Prairie, Inner Mongolia, consisting of Vestas’ high performing V80 turbines.

The contract is a supply-only contract and includes delivery, supervision of installation and commissioning of the wind turbines, a Vestas Online Business SCADA solution as well as a service and maintenance agreement. The turbines are scheduled to be delivered in the third quarter of 2011.

In addition to this, both parties have signed a framework agreement for another 250 MW of wind energy projects to be developed in the coming years.

Jens Tommerup, President of Vestas China said, “I am very pleased to be able to announce yet another new customer and valued partner for Vestas in China. We have very strong capabilities to deliver the type of services that are critical to ensuring the profitability of wind energy projects. We will of course work very closely with GSI to ensure their success with wind energy.”

GSI is a privately owned company, whose business scope is focused on investment activities within the financial and industrial sector, and recently has expanded its scope to include activities in the energy sector.

Vestas, the world leader in wind technology, started to manufacture wind turbines in 1979.

Vestas installed China’s first wind turbines in Shandong in 1986. As of 31 December 2010,Vestas had installed almost 3,000 MW of clean energy across thirteen provinces in China.
