Hon Simon Bridges, Minister of Energy and Resources, hosted a celebration for Antarctica New Zealand upon receiving the world’s first Energy–Mark certification from Enviro-Mark Solutions on 29 June at the Beehive. Sustainability business leaders in Wellington, alongside Ministers, MPs and Ambassadors of the international Antarctic community attended to understand Enviro-Mark Solutions’ Energy-Mark certification programme and how Antarctica New Zealand achieved this world-first in energy management.
Minister Bridges was pleased to present Peter Beggs, Antarctica New Zealand’s Chief Executive, with the Energy-Mark certification as it highlights the importance of energy management for businesses in New Zealand.
Antarctica New Zealand is the government agency responsible for carrying out New Zealand’s activities in Antarctica; supporting world leading science and environmental protection. Antarctica is an incredibly unique environment so leaving a minimal footprint is just part of working there.
Energy-Mark certification was the next natural step for Antarctica New Zealand to develop and implement an Energy Management System which aligns with the international standard ISO50001. Antarctica New Zealand add this achievement to their Enviro-Mark Diamond certification, (environmental management system in accordance with ISO14001) and CEMARS certification, (greenhouse gas emissions management system in accordance with ISO14064).
Enviro-Mark Solutions provide each of these certifications to help businesses and other organisations manage different aspects of their environmental impacts. A wholly-owned subsidiary of Landcare Research, a Government-owned Crown Research Institute, Enviro-Mark Solutions is the leading provider of environmental certification in New Zealand.
