Investa’s ARK development awarded first ever NSW Highrise 6-Star Green Star As Built Rating

Investa Property Group’s award-winning ARK building has been awarded the coveted Green Building Council of Australia (GBCA) 6 Star Green Star Office - As Built V2 Certified Rating, acknowledging world leadership in environmentally sustainable construction.

Jointly owned by Investa Property Group and Investa Commercial Property Fund (ICPF), the building is located at 40 Mount Street in North Sydney, and is the first completed high-rise building in New South Wales to achieve the 6 Star Green Star Office Design and As Built ratings. It has also been built to achieve a 5 Star NABERS Energy rating.

The Green Star rating is a national system that evaluates the environmental design and construction of buildings and is the only classification system of its kind in Australia.

Containing 28,500 square metres of NLA over 21 floors, the $230 million project designed by Rice Daubney was built by Thiess, and has garnered much attention for its ground-breaking design features.

The innovative façade was moulded to suit the surrounding buildings and landscape with an efficient floor plate and floor to ceiling glass optimising natural light. ARK’s sustainability credentials were central to the design and development process, with every aspect of material, water and energy use considered.

ARK’s green design features include a tri generation power supply, extensive grey and rain water recycling systems as well as energy efficient mechanical and lighting systems.

Investa’s General Manager, Developments Tina Tang commented: “We are delighted to have received the 6 Star Green Star As Built Rating. Sustainable development is a key driver for Investa, and this achievement is testament to our ability to deliver on our commitments.”

“It requires a collective team effort and mutual understanding to be able to achieve a significant outcome such as this, and recognition must go to all teams involved including in particular Thiess, Rice Daubney and Cundalls,” said Ms Tang.

Steve Holden, Building Manager NSW/ACT for Thiess commented: “Thiess and our terrific project team capably lead by our Project Manager Nick Kouvaris, are extremely excited by this 6 Star Green Star As Built Rating achieved for the ARK. We would like to recognise Investa’s vision and determination and all our consultants, subcontractors and suppliers who contributed to this successful outcome.”

Occupancy at ARK is now 90% with anchor tenant Coca-Cola Amatil, Vodafone Hutchison Australia, Australian Worldwide Exploration and Regus.

ARK has already won several prestigious industry awards this year, including the Urban Taskforce Development Excellence Award for 2010 Development of the Year, an Environmental Development Award in the 2010 API NSW Excellence in Property Awards and the Master Builders Association NSW 2010 Award for The Best Use of Glass and Excellence in Energy Efficiency.

Investa congratulates the entire project team on this great achievement, including Rice Daubney and Thiess, an exceptional builder and partner in the construction and delivery of high quality, sustainable development.

Investa Property Group, a world leader in the development and implementation of real estate sustainability initiatives was this year also awarded the prestigious Commercial Property Sustainability Award at the Green Globe Awards. The Group is frequently recognised for its thought leadership in sustainability initiatives, which include Ecospace, the Green Lease, Green Buildings Alive, and other work done through the Investa Sustainability Institute.
