REC’s commitment to quality operations and sustainability recognized with OHSAS 18001 certification

World’s Largest Vertically-Integrated Solar Manufacturer Obtains OHSAS 18001, ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 Certification for its Integrated Wafer, Cell and Module Singapore-based Plant

REC today announced that it had obtained the OHSAS 18001 certification for all four business units at its integrated solar production facility in Tuas, Singapore. REC Singapore was recognized for actively promoting a safe and healthy environment at its workplace with over 1,500 employees. With the OHSAS 18001 certification, REC has passed the stringent audit for a defined framework to consistently identify and control health and safety risks; reduce the potential for accidents; aid legislative compliance; and improve overall performance.

This certification is the third for REC, following the award of the ISO 9001 certification in 2010 and ISO 14001 certification in 2011. This is a significant milestone for REC as it has now received all three certification, which clearly demonstrates REC’s strong commitment to quality operations, products and sustainability.

“We are pleased to have successfully achieved the OHSAS 18001 certification process for all four business units in Singapore as it validates our commitment to creating and maintaining quality operations. As one of the leaders in providing solar energy solutions, we strongly believe in a safe and healthy workplace for our staff while ensuring that we minimize the carbon footprint from our business and solutions,” said Mr Luc Graré, Senior Vice President, Sales and Marketing, Cells & Modules, REC ASA.

Mr Graré added, “This achievement is extremely momentous as REC Singapore is one of the largest integrated solar manufacturing plants in the world. The safe and environmentally friendly plant gives us the ability to continue to provide customers in the fast growing Asia Pacific region with the solutions they need.”

In July 2010, REC was awarded the ISO 9001 certification in which REC Wafer’s procedures for quality assurance, production, maintenance, human resource management, supply chain, as well as other processes pertaining to customer expectation and satisfaction were audited. Previously in May 2011, after just seven months, REC was awarded the ISO 14001 certification for its commitment to continuous improvement and its efforts to minimize its environmental pollution and carbon footprint. The Singapore facility had also obtained the Singapore Building and Construction Authority (BCA) ‘Green Mark’ which indicated that the building meets strict criteria for energy efficiency, water efficiency, project development and management, good indoor environmental quality and environmental protection and innovation.
