Semi-finalists announced for The EcoChic Design Award 2014/15

The semi-finalists for the EcoChi Design Award Sustainable Fashion Design Competition were announced on Tuesday after stringent evaluation by the local panel of judges.

Challenged with creating minimal waste designs, applicants used a combination of one or more of the three sustainable design techniques of zero-waste, up-cycling and reconstruction.

The semi-finalists who will now go through to the international judging round are listed here: http://www.ecochicdesignaward.com/semi-finalists-201415-eng/

One of these talented semi-finalists from each region is guaranteed to reach The EcoChic Design Award 2014/15 Grand Final where they will present their sustainable collection at Hong Kong Fashion week in January 2015 to compete career-boosting prizes sponsored by Shanghai Tang, The Langham Hong Kong and John Hardy.

“It is fascinating to see how designers approached The Eco Chic Design Award 2014/15 brief. It’s exciting to see designers fluent in creating clothes that have zero waste, using up cycled and organic fabrics. May this become the industry standard very soon.” said local judge Melanie Rickey, Fashioneditoratlarge.com

“It is encouraging to see young designers and fashion students think about how to use fabrics in different ways - and that the results can be at least as cutting edge as more mainstream fashion.” said Christina Passariello, WSJ.

“Sustainable fashion is not a niche business anymore, it’s a key part of every fashion business. So the winners of the EcoChic Design Award must be leaders and evangelists who inspire ordinary fashion businesses to do more and to do better. I’m so pleased to see that some of the Taiwanese talent in this year’s award will be able to do exactly that.” said Mei Hui Liu, Victim Fashion Street
